A Note from the Curator

The building is arranged as a single circuit. From the atrium the axial walk runs north through the Court of the Olive to the Map Room, where the wanderings are charted. From there the galleries follow the voyage itself, east to west, as Odysseus sailed it: Troy at the sunrise end of the building, Ithaca at the sunset end.

The hall at the centre of the court — the Hall of the Olive-Wood Bed — is kept shut until a visitor has walked the whole voyage. Its bronze doors know who has been where.
